One-piece LED tail light for 1955 Chevy with 48 SMD LEDs, sealed epoxy electronics and direct 1157 plug-in installation
This one-piece LED tail light replaces the original assembly on a 1955 Chevrolet with a direct plug-and-play 1157 connector. It uses 48 SMD LEDs behind an all-red polycarbonate lens and runs on any 12 VDC system. The electronics are sealed in epoxy to resist moisture and corrosion. Buyers needing a factory backup-light function will not find it here.
Solid-state circuitry produces minimal heat draw compared with incandescent units and places very low load on the vehicle’s charging system. No fan or active cooling is required because the sealed epoxy construction dissipates heat passively. The lamp operates silently and eliminates the flicker that can occur with aged mechanical flashers. An upgraded LED-compatible flasher such as item 90652 or 90649 is recommended for correct blink rate.
The 10.2 x 5.35 x 3 inch housing weighs .57 lbs and bolts into the stock location without modification. Because the backup-light lens is deleted, a separate LED licence-plate lamp with backup function — item 50187 — is suggested to restore rear illumination. No additional wiring harnesses, resistors or control modules are needed beyond the recommended flasher upgrade.

Connect the 1157 type connector directly for plug-and-play installation; the step many miss is upgrading the under-dash flasher to item 90652 or 90649 so the LED circuit flashes correctly.
The electronics are sealed in epoxy on a solid-state circuit board, so no bulb changes are needed; only the external 1157 connector or a failed flasher unit would ever require replacement.
The solid-state board is engineered for any 12VDC system, and the epoxy-sealed 48 SMD LEDs resist heat and moisture, so no thermal or electrical limit is reached under normal continuous operation.
