Dual-band VHF/UHF NMO antenna kit

The kit provides a 3.5 inch whip covering VHF 136-174 MHZ and UHF 400-470 MHZ with 2.5 dBi gain. It includes a magnetic NMO mount, 16.4 ft RG58 coaxial cable with PL-259 plug, and a sealing cap. The 50 ohm impedance matches standard mobile and marine radios.

Magnetic mount limits and cable loss

The 90 mm base delivers 30.8 lbs pull strength, holding the antenna on vehicle roofs at highway speed. RG58 cable attenuation increases with length, so the 16.4 ft run suits temporary or mobile installs but not permanent base-station feeds. The O-ring seal protects the NMO threads from water during washing.

2.5 dBi gain decides coverage

The unity-gain whip radiates equally toward the horizon, favouring line-of-sight contacts over distant repeaters. Operators needing higher ERP for fringe areas should choose a longer, higher-gain antenna instead.

Questions about this item

Which antenna length should I choose for VHF and UHF coverage?

The kit includes a single 3.5 inch NMO whip covering VHF 136-174 MHz and UHF 400-470 MHz with 2.5 dBi gain, so no length option is needed.

What does the 2.5 dBi gain mean for my radio range?

The 2.5 dBi gain provides modest signal improvement over a unity-gain antenna on both VHF and UHF bands when mounted on the magnetic base.

What connector does the 16.4 ft RG58 cable use and what impedance does it match?

The cable ends in a PL-259 plug for a SO-239 jack and is a 50 ohm RG58 coaxial run.
