Dual-band whip antenna for handheld radios

This dual-band whip antenna operates on 144 and 430 MHz frequencies with SMA-Female connectors. The flexible design measures 15 inches and is sold as a 2-pack for backup or multi-radio use. It is built for two-way radio communication on VHF and UHF bands.

SMA-Female connector fit

The connector type is SMA-Female, which determines compatibility with specific handheld radios. Gain is rated at 2.15 dBi on 144 MHz and 2.5 dBi on 430 MHz, with a maximum power input of 20 W. Verify your radio uses an SMA-Female port before purchasing.

Suits owners of compatible handhelds.

This antenna suits users of BaoFeng, some Wouxun, and some Kenwood handheld radios that accept SMA-Female connectors. Buyers whose radios use a different connector type such as BNC or SMA-Male should look at other options. It is also not intended for base-station or mobile installations requiring fixed mounts.

What does the 2.15 dBi gain at 144 MHz actually deliver on a handheld radio?

The 2.15 dBi gain at 144 MHz increases signal strength over a stock antenna, extending usable range on the 2 metre band while keeping the whip flexible.

How does the SMA-Female connector limit which radios I can use?

The SMA-Female connector fits BaoFeng UV-82, UV-5R, GT-3, BF-F8HP, BF-888s and some Wouxun and Kenwood handhelds that have an SMA-Male port.

Will the 15 inch whip fit inside a standard radio pouch or vehicle mount?

At 15 inches long the flexible whip needs a pouch or mount that accommodates its full length; it cannot be collapsed shorter.
