Nagoya NA-771 Antenna for Handheld Radios

The Nagoya NA-771 is a 15.6-inch flexible whip antenna built for VHF and UHF handheld transceivers. It connects via an SMA-female fitting and covers the 144 MHz and 430 MHz bands. The soft construction tolerates rough handling during outdoor and camping use better than a standard stock antenna.

Signal Performance and Durability

The extended 16-inch length boosts received and transmitted signal strength compared with shorter stock whips. A rubber spacer and extended antenna cover are included to shield the radio's SMA male base from moisture and debris during field operation. The flexible body reduces the risk of connector damage if the radio is knocked or dropped.

Included Spacer and Cover

The supplied rubber spacer ensures a snug fit on radios with slightly recessed SMA connectors, preventing signal loss from a loose joint. The extended cover slides over the base to keep rain, dust and grit away from the radio's antenna port. No additional adapters or tools are required for installation on compatible BTECH and BaoFeng models.

Questions about this item

How do I install the Nagoya NA-771 on my BaoFeng UV-5R and what step is often missed?

Thread the SMA-Female connector onto the radio's SMA male base; the included rubber spacer must be fitted between the antenna base and radio body to seal the joint and prevent the extended cover from binding.

What part of this antenna will need replacement first with regular outdoor use?

The soft flexible whip and its rubber spacer are the wear items; the whip can fatigue from repeated bending and the spacer can degrade from UV and moisture exposure.

What performance limit appears first during a long transmission session with this 15.6-inch whip?

The radio's own thermal protection will trigger before the passive antenna reaches any limit, since the NA-771 has no active components to overheat.
