What it is

The V2 Technologies USB 2.0 56K V.90 fax modem is an external dial-up accessory that adds an RJ11 telephone interface to any computer with a free USB port. It targets users who still rely on analogue phone lines for fax transmission or legacy connectivity in environments without broadband.

How it fits

The device draws power and data from a single USB 2.0 connection and supplies two RJ11 ports so a fax line and a telephone can be attached simultaneously. It operates with the Conexant 93010 chipset and supports the V.90, V.17, V.29 and Group 3 Class 1 protocols for reliable fax send and receive. Driver support covers Windows 98 through Windows 11 in both 32 and 64 bit editions as well as Linux, and the unit is recognised as a plug and play device with no external power supply required.

Thermals noise power

Because the modem is powered entirely from the USB bus its power draw is minimal and it produces no audible fan noise. The ABS enclosure stays cool during normal operation and the built in fast anti thunder defend circuit helps protect the host system from line surges without adding measurable heat.

Questions about this item

Does the 56 Kbps V.90 connection hold its rated speed during long dial-up sessions?

The modem uses a Conexant 93010 chip and V.90 protocol rated at 56 Kbps; actual throughput depends on line quality and ISP limits.

How much heat or noise does the external USB 2.0 modem produce when left running all day?

The ABS enclosure has no fan and draws power from the USB port, so it runs silently with barely noticeable warmth.

Which operating systems and telephone cables must I already have for this modem to work?

It supports Windows 98 through 11 (32/64-bit) and Linux, and the box includes one RJ11 telephone cable for the wall jack.
