Metal bridge and backbox combo supports 8-inch ceiling speakers and prevents tile sagging
The Valcom V-9916M is a metal bridge and backbox combination designed for 8 inch ceiling speakers. It suits installers who need a single component that both spans the joist bay and encloses the driver. The unit works with every Valcom flush-mount ceiling speaker in the range. Builders who require a different cut-out diameter or a non-metal enclosure should look elsewhere.
The all-metal construction will not rust, preserving structural integrity in humid plenum spaces. Its rigidity prevents ceiling tile sagging over time, keeping the speaker flange flush with the finished surface. No moving parts or powered elements are present, so the assembly adds no noise or power draw to the installation.
The combo replaces separate bridge and backbox parts, reducing the number of components handled overhead. It mounts directly across standard joist spacing, freeing the installer from fabricating custom supports. The enclosed back volume isolates the speaker from plenum debris and airflow, simplifying the final ceiling finish.

The metal bridge spans the ceiling grid while the backbox sits above the tile; the step often missed is securing the bridge to the grid wires before placing the speaker so the assembly cannot shift.
The galvanised metal resists rust, so no corrosion maintenance is required; only the mounted speaker itself may eventually need replacement.
The ceiling tile is the limiting factor; the combo prevents tile sagging, so the tile's own load rating is reached before the metal bridge or backbox shows any deformation.
