- 6 inch overall length with 1-1/2 inch nominal pipe size
1-1/2" Galvanized Steel Nipple
This 6-inch pipe nipple connects threaded Schedule 40 piping in air, gas or potable water systems. The galvanized steel construction resists corrosion and is rated for 300 psi at 150 degrees Fahrenheit. It is manufactured to standard nominal dimensions using electric resistance welding.
Upgrade from black or uncoated pipe
Replaces bare steel nipples where moisture or outdoor exposure causes rust. The zinc coating extends service life in damp environments and meets Schedule 40 pressure requirements. The jump is worth it when the installation demands corrosion resistance without moving to stainless steel.
Handles 300 psi water and 150 psi steam
Comfortably supplies residential and light commercial lines within the rated pressure and temperature limits. The 6-inch overall length suits typical coupling spacing but runs out when longer runs or non-standard centres are required. Not suited for pressures above the stated maximums.

Questions about this item
What pipe size and schedule does the 1-1/2 inch galvanized nipple match?
It fits Schedule 40 pipe with a 1-1/2 inch nominal size and a 1 57/64 inch outside diameter.
How do I seal the MNPT threads correctly?
Apply PTFE tape or pipe dope clockwise on the male threads, then tighten two turns past hand-tight; over-tightening cracks the galvanized coating.
When should I replace the nipple due to corrosion?
Replace it if white zinc oxide deposits appear, threads show pitting, or the fitting sees pressures above 300 psi at 150 °F or 150 psi steam at 350 °F.
