Primary Wire GPT 20 AWG

This GPT primary wire uses stranded copper conductors with red PVC insulation. It is supplied in a 100 ft length and rated for 60 V applications. The wire is designed for automotive and general low-voltage electrical work.

Suited for low-voltage signal and power runs

Installers needing a single-conductor 20 AWG lead for 60 V circuits will find this wire appropriate. It is not intended for mains-voltage wiring or for applications that require a higher voltage rating or a larger conductor gauge.

Trade designation GPT

The GPT designation identifies this as a general-purpose thermoplastic automotive wire. This classification determines whether the insulation and voltage rating meet the requirements of the specific vehicle or equipment wiring standard being followed.

Questions about this item

What conduit size fits the 20 AWG stranded wire?

The 20 AWG stranded copper conductor with PVC insulation typically fits through 1/4 inch or larger conduit depending on fill calculations.

How do I strip the PVC jacket without nicking the strands?

Use a calibrated stripper set for 20 AWG, rotate once, and pull straight off; nicked strands reduce current capacity.

When should I replace this GPT wire?

Replace if the red PVC shows cracking, brittleness, or if insulation resistance drops below specification for 60 V circuits.
