Venstar T7900 Colortouch Thermostat

The Venstar T7900 is a programmable heating and cooling thermostat with built-in WiFi and humidity control. It manages up to four heat stages and two cool stages for gas, electric, heat pump or dual fuel systems. The touchscreen interface switches between programmable and non-programmable operation. A common wire is required for power.

Thermals noise and power draw

The thermostat draws operating power through the HVAC system common wire rather than batteries. Normal use produces no audible fan noise because the unit has no moving parts. Heat output from the display is minimal and does not affect room temperature readings. Power consumption remains constant during WiFi communication.

WiFi and picture frame features

Built-in WiFi connects the thermostat to a home network for free remote control from a smartphone or computer. The colour touchscreen doubles as a digital picture frame that displays custom images uploaded by the user. These features replace the separate T5900 and ACC0454 accessories previously needed for connectivity and humidity management.

Questions about this item

How do I install the Venstar T7900 and what step do people miss?

Wire the thermostat using a common wire to the C terminal so the unit powers on; the step often missed is confirming the C-wire is actually connected to the common side of the HVAC transformer before mounting.

What maintenance or replacement will the T7900 need later?

The thermostat itself has no user-serviceable parts; plan to replace the HVAC system air filter on schedule and, if the touchscreen becomes unresponsive after years of use, the entire unit would be replaced.

What limit shows up first under sustained use of the T7900?

The thermostat supports up to four heating stages and two cooling stages; a system demanding more stages than that would hit the staging limit first during heavy load.
