Designed for APS-C mirrorless cameras

The Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro APO is the first macro lens Venus Optics has designed specifically for APS-C mirrorless systems. It delivers up to 2X life-size magnification, exceeding the typical 1.5X limit of competing macro lenses. The compact and lightweight build suits macro photography, daily stills and portraiture alike.

Focus range from infinity to 2X magnification

The lens focuses continuously from infinity down to a 2:1 magnification ratio at a minimum focusing distance of 6.7 inches (17 cm). This wide magnification range lets photographers capture subjects of varying sizes without changing lenses. Optical performance is optimised for APS-C sensors, providing strong centre-to-corner sharpness, colour fidelity and clarity throughout the focus travel.

Sony E mount with 65mm focal length

The lens uses the Sony E mount and has a fixed 65mm focal length with a maximum aperture of f/2.8. Buyers using other mirrorless mounts or needing a different focal length should look elsewhere. The APO designation indicates corrected chromatic aberration for high-resolution APS-C sensors.

Questions about this item

How much heat or noise does the 65mm f/2.8 lens generate during all-day macro sessions?

As a passive optical lens it produces no heat and no noise; the only warmth comes from the camera body during extended use.

What camera body and mount are required to use the 2X magnification on this 65mm lens?

You need an APS-C mirrorless body with Sony E mount; the lens is designed specifically for that format and will not cover full-frame sensors.

Will the 65mm f/2.8 APO focus correctly on an older Sony APS-C body that only supports 1.5X macro lenses?

Yes, the lens focuses from infinity to 2X on any Sony E-mount APS-C camera; the body does not limit the magnification range.
