Achieve 2:1 magnification with this 100mm f/2.8 ultra macro APO lens for Canon EF, featuring 12 elements in 10 groups and 9.72in minimum focus distance
The Venus Optics Laowa 100mm f/2.8 achieves 2x life-size magnification on full-frame sensors, letting photographers record detail far beyond standard 1:1 macro lenses. Its apochromatic optical design uses 12 elements in 10 groups to suppress chromatic aberration across the frame. The 100mm focal length doubles as a medium telephoto for portraits or compressed perspectives. Manual focus with a 9.72" minimum distance gives precise control for tiny subjects.
This lens has no internal focus motor, so operation is completely silent during focusing. The all-metal barrel contains no electronic aperture linkage for the Canon EF mount; exposure is controlled manually on the lens barrel. Power draw is zero because there are no stabilisation or autofocus systems to energise. Heat generation is limited to ambient temperature changes during extended outdoor sessions.
If your work requires greater-than-life-size reproduction on a full-frame Canon EF body, this optic delivers it in a single lens. Buyers who need autofocus, electronic aperture control or standard 1:1 macro with lighter weight should look elsewhere. The fixed 100mm focal length also means it cannot replace a zoom for variable framing.

Align the red dot on the lens barrel with the mount index on the camera, twist clockwise until it clicks, then use the camera's command dial to control the auto aperture — there is no aperture ring on the lens.
The manual-focus helicoid has no motor and the auto-aperture linkage is mechanical; both are designed for long life with no user-serviceable parts, so routine cleaning of the front and rear elements is the only maintenance required.
The lens has no image stabilisation and the minimum focusing distance is 9.72 inches, so at 2x magnification camera shake becomes the limiting factor; use a tripod, flash or higher ISO to keep the subject sharp.
