Wide 28mm f/1.2 RF prime

The Venus Optics Laowa Argus 28mm f/1.2 is a manual-focus wide-angle prime built for Canon RF full-frame mirrorless cameras. It suits photographers who want a fast, compact lens for environmental portraits, street scenes and low-light storytelling without autofocus assistance.

f/1.2 maximum aperture

The ultra-fast f/1.2 aperture is the single specification that determines suitability; it gathers exceptional light for night or indoor work and produces a very shallow depth of field. The 13-blade diaphragm renders smooth, circular bokeh that separates subjects cleanly against busy backgrounds.

75.4° angle of view, 19.69" close focus

At 75.4 degrees the lens captures more context than standard 35mm or 50mm primes, while the 19.69-inch minimum focus distance allows tight detail shots. Weighing 562g at 68.5 x 106mm, it adds minimal bulk to an RF kit and leaves room for filters or a hood in tight bags.

Questions about this item

How does the f/1.2 aperture perform when the lens is mounted on a full-frame Canon RF body?

The f/1.2 maximum aperture delivers exceptional low-light capability and very shallow depth of field on full-frame sensors, with 2 ED and 2 UHR elements controlling aberrations wide open.

What does the Canon RF mount designation mean for electronic communication with the camera?

The lens uses a manual focus design with no electronic contacts, so aperture and focus data are not transmitted to the camera body.

Will the 68.5 x 106 mm barrel and 562 g weight balance well on a compact mirrorless body?

At 562 g and 68.5 x 106 mm the lens is relatively compact for an f/1.2 prime, offering a balanced feel on smaller RF-mount cameras.
