A 116-piece threading kit with 51 taps and 51 dies in metric and SAE sizes, made from HRC56 bearing steel with zinc-alloy wrenches and a storage case
This 116-piece tap and die set provides metric and SAE sizes cut from HRC56 bearing steel. It is built for professionals and serious hobbyists who need to create or repair external and internal threads in steel and other metals. The comprehensive assortment covers diameters from M3 to M20 and equivalent SAE threads. Buyers who only need occasional small-thread repairs may find the full range excessive.
Each tap and die undergoes CNC machining, an 800 heat treatment cycle and double polishing to reach HRC56±3 hardness. The bearing steel material delivers high wear and corrosion resistance for repeated use in harsh workshop environments. The polished surfaces reduce friction during cutting, helping threads stay clean and tools stay sharp longer. No cooling system or powered drive is included, so cutting speed depends on manual effort.
The kit bundles 51 taps, 51 dies, two tap wrenches (M3-M12 and M6-M20), a T-type tap wrench, two die wrenches (25.4 mm and 38 mm), a screwdriver, a head, SAE and metric screw pitch gauges, and five extractors. Zinc-alloy wrenches provide secure grip on the hardened tools. The storage case keeps every piece organised and protected between jobs. Users requiring powered tapping heads or larger diameter dies will need separate equipment.

Select the die matching the thread size, place it into the 25.4 mm or 38 mm die wrench, and tighten the set screw fully before cutting; the step often missed is not securing the set screw, which lets the die shift and ruins the thread.
The 51 taps and 51 dies are made from bearing steel hardened to HRC56±3; they cannot be resharpened economically, so when cutting edges dull from heavy use the individual tap or die must be replaced.
The zinc-alloy wrenches and 800 heat-treated cutting edges handle high torque, but the HRC56±3 bearing steel taps will chip first if excessive force is applied on hard or stainless materials without proper lubrication.
