Motor for air compressor duty

This 2 HP single-phase motor is built to drive air compressors and similar equipment that need 3450 RPM output. It suits workshops and light-industrial sites where a 56-frame replacement or new-build power unit is required.

Open drip-proof enclosure limits

The ODP housing vents internally for cooling, so it must be installed in clean, dry areas free of dripping liquids or heavy dust. At 115 V it draws 20 A full-load and needs a 50 A circuit breaker; at 230 V it draws 10 A and needs a 25 A breaker.

Shaft, frame and wiring checks

Verify your compressor uses a 56 frame with a 5/8 inch keyed shaft 1.88 inches long and a 0.188 inch keyway. The motor ships set for counter-clockwise rotation but can be reversed; confirm your supply voltage matches 115 V or 230 V at 60 Hz before wiring.

Questions about this item

Should I wire this motor for 115 V or 230 V?

It runs on either 115 V drawing 20 A or 230 V drawing 10 A; choose the voltage that matches your supply and use a 50 A breaker at 115 V or 25 A at 230 V.

What does the 3450 RPM rating mean when the motor is under load?

3450 RPM is the full-load speed at 2 HP with a 1.0 service factor, so the shaft delivers rated power at that speed when properly cooled.

Will the 56 frame and 5/8 inch keyed shaft fit my existing compressor mount?

The motor uses a standard NEMA 56 frame with a 5/8 inch keyed shaft 1.88 inches long and a 0.188 inch keyway, matching common compressor mounts.
