Vehicle Roof Cargo Basket

This steel basket measures 51 by 36 by 5 inches and mounts to SUV or truck roof rails using the included universal U-bolts. It is built for drivers who need extra luggage space on road trips or camping outings. The two-section frame assembles on the roof without special tools. It is not for vehicles without factory or aftermarket crossbars.

Weather Protection and Load Rating

The powder-coated and galvanised Q195 steel frame resists corrosion from rain and road salt. A waterproof cargo bag measuring 44.68 by 34.45 by 16.9 inches fits inside the basket to shield gear from moisture and dust. The structure is rated for a maximum load of 200 lbs.

Steel Tube Construction

The basket uses rectangular steel tubing sized at 0.98 by 0.87 inches with a wall thickness of 0.047 inches. This material choice determines whether the basket can handle your intended cargo weight without bending. The complete kit weighs 35.9 lbs.

Questions about this item

How do I attach the two 51 x 36 x 5 sections to my crossbars using the U-bolts?

Position each section on the crossbars, wrap the supplied universal U-bolts around the bars and the 0.98 x 0.87 inch steel tubes, then tighten the nuts evenly so the 1.2 mm walls clamp without distortion.

What upkeep does the Q195 steel frame with spraying plus galvanising finish need over time?

Inspect the coating after every few trips; if scratches expose bare metal, clean the spot and apply a rust-inhibiting touch-up paint to stop corrosion on the 0.047 inch thick tubing.

At what load does the 200 lb roof-basket rating become the limiting factor on long highway runs?

The 90.7 kg maximum capacity is the first limit reached; sustained vibration and wind lift reduce the effective margin, so keep the combined cargo and 16.9 inch tall bag weight at or below 200 lbs.
