ProPress Ball Valve for Potable Water
The Viega 79943 is a manual two-way ball valve built for potable water lines. Its bronze body and stainless-steel ball resist corrosion while the full-port design keeps flow unrestricted. A locking lever handle prevents accidental operation and the ProPress connection eliminates open-flame soldering on site.
Upgrade from Threaded or Soldered Valves
This valve replaces traditional threaded or sweat bronze valves where faster, flame-free installation is required. The jump is worth it on retrofit jobs where hot-work permits are difficult or when system downtime must be minimised. It is not suited for steam lines, combustible gas service or applications needing 3-A sanitary certification.
Press Installation with Leak Detection
The ProPress ends install with standard press tools and the integrated sealing element provides visual leak detection during pressure testing. Common issues arise from using worn jaw inserts, pressing on contaminated tube ends or exceeding the 200 psi operating limit. The valve carries a vacuum rating of 29.2 in Hg for evacuation procedures.

Questions about this item
What pipe size does the 1-1/2" ProPress connection fit?
The valve has a nominal size of 1 1/2 in for copper tubing and uses the ProPress press-fit system with the correct jaw.
How do I install the valve and what step is often missed?
Cut and deburr the tube, mark the insertion depth, press with a calibrated tool, then verify the press indicator ring is fully seated.
What maintenance will this valve need over time?
The bronze body and stainless steel ball require no routine service; operate the locking lever periodically to prevent seizing and inspect seals if pressure drops.
