Ultra-portable 15.6" IPS monitor

The ViewSonic VA1653 is a 15.6 inch Full HD IPS portable monitor built for professionals who need a second screen while travelling. It weighs 1.5 lbs and measures .7 inches thick, so it fits into a backpack or briefcase without adding bulk. The 1920x1080 resolution and 178° viewing angles keep text sharp from almost any position.

Sustained-use behaviour

The IPS panel delivers a static contrast ratio of 1000:1 and covers 16.7 million colours at a 60Hz refresh rate with a 7ms response time. Because the monitor draws power and signal over a single USB-C connection, extended sessions depend on the host device's ability to supply 60W of power delivery. Bright environments are handled by the anti-glare coating rather than high peak brightness.

Installation and common issues

A built-in stand cover unfolds to support both portrait and landscape orientations, and the package includes a mini HDMI cable and a USB-C cable for immediate setup. The single USB-C port carries video, data and charging simultaneously, so users must confirm their laptop supports DisplayPort Alt Mode and 60W power delivery. Some devices with limited USB-C power output may require the separate power adapter to avoid flickering or unexpected sleep.

Questions about this item

How much power does the VA1653 draw when running all day?

The USB-C port supplies up to 60 W for charging and video, so the monitor itself draws well under that while the 15.6 inch IPS panel runs at 60 Hz.

What must my laptop already have to use the VA1653?

A USB-C port with DisplayPort Alt Mode or a mini HDMI output; either one carries video, audio and power without extra adapters.

Will the VA1653 work with my older laptop that only has full-size HDMI?

Yes — use an HDMI-to-mini-HDMI cable into the mini HDMI port; the 1920 x 1080 panel accepts standard 60 Hz signals from legacy ports.
