Shares a single phone line between a priority emergency device and a standard phone, disconnecting the standard call when the priority port activates
The Viking Electronics 1167932 connects a standard phone line to two devices, giving the second port priority for emergency or alarm equipment. An active call on the first port is dropped when the priority port goes off-hook, freeing the line immediately. Inbound calls can be directed to the priority port by Caller ID, Distinctive Ring, or Quick Call Back, or all calls can be routed there by configuration. Caller ID is not passed through to either connected device.
Facilities that need a dedicated emergency connection without the cost of a second leased line will benefit from this arrangement. The unit works on any C. O. line or analogue PABX and KSU station port. Installations that require Caller ID to reach the attached handsets cannot use this device because the feature is blocked. Systems needing simultaneous use of both ports during an emergency call are also not supported.
The device disconnects the non-priority port for two seconds before returning dial tone to the emergency port, and this fixed interval is the specification that determines whether the timing meets local safety or regulatory requirements.

The Viking 1167932 is a passive line-sharing unit with no internal power supply; it draws negligible current from the telephone line itself and produces no measurable heat during continuous operation.
You need an active analog C.O. line or an analog PABX/KSU station port, plus two analog devices — one for the standard port and one for the priority port such as an elevator phone or alarm panel.
Yes; the device connects in-line on a standard analog circuit, so legacy phones, fax machines or alarm panels plug directly into its two RJ-11 ports and operate without any cabling changes.
