MacBook SSD enclosure for 12+16 pin drives
The Vszerda enclosure lets you reuse Apple original SSDs that use the 12+16 pin connector found in MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac Pro and iMac models from 2013 to 2017. It also accepts Toshiba and OWC Mac SSDs. An included M.2 adapter adds support for M.2 NVMe drives, so the same dock can handle both proprietary and standard modules.
USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface speed limits
The dock connects through a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port rated at 10 Gbps under normal conditions and can reach 20 Gbps when the host supports USB 3.2 Gen 2x2. Actual throughput will depend on the SSD installed and the capabilities of the computer's USB controller, so speeds may be lower on older ports.
Check your Mac model and host port before ordering
This adapter only fits Apple SSDs with the 12+16 pin layout used between 2013 and 2017; later Macs with different pinouts or soldered storage are not compatible. You also need a USB‑C host port that can deliver enough power for the drive, and the system must run Windows 7 or later, Mac OS 10.0 or later, or Linux 2.6 or later.

Questions about this item
Should I pick the 12+16 pin adapter or the M.2 adapter for my MacBook SSD?
Use the 12+16 pin adapter for original Apple SSDs from 2013 to 2017, including Toshiba 656-0021A and OWC models. The M.2 adapter is only for NVMe SSDs.
What transfer speed will I see when this enclosure is connected to a USB 3.2 Gen2 port?
You will see up to 10Gbps under normal conditions. 20Gbps requires a host that supports USB 3.2 Gen2x2.
Does the USB 3.2 Gen2 interface limit the speed of my NVMe SSD?
Yes, the enclosure caps at 10Gbps on USB 3.2 Gen2, or 20Gbps on USB 3.2 Gen2x2, which is below the potential of many NVMe drives.
