M.2 NVMe M Key to U.2 SFF-8639 Adapter

This adapter converts an M.2 NVMe M Key solid-state drive to a U.2 SFF-8639 interface. It also supports M.2 SATA B Key drives connecting to a standard 2.5 inch SATA 2.0 port. The board accommodates common M.2 form factors including 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 lengths. It is intended for builders integrating existing M.2 storage into U.2 or 2.5 inch drive bays.

Supported M.2 lengths and interface limits

The converter handles M.2 drives sized 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280. NVMe M Key drives operate through the U.2 SFF-8639 connection while SATA B Key drives run over SATA 2.0. Builders needing NVMe speeds over a SATA-only backplane or requiring PCIe switching for multiple drives will find this single-drive adapter insufficient.

Questions about this item

Will this adapter let me keep using my older 2.5" U.2 SFF-8639 backplane with a new M.2 NVME M Key SSD?

Yes, the board converts an M.2 NVME M Key drive to the U.2 SFF-8639 interface so it fits your existing 2.5" backplane.

How can I confirm the M.2 SATA B Key drive is running at SATA 2.0 speed after I install it?

Check the negotiated link speed in your BIOS or OS disk utility; it should report 3 Gb/s for SATA 2.0 operation.
