PCIe 3.0 4.0 Adapter for U.2 NVMe SSD
This adapter connects a U.2 NVMe SSD to a mainboard using an SFF-8654 Slimline SAS interface. It supports both PCIe 3.0 and 4.0 speeds across four lanes. The package includes the adapter card and a 50cm cable. It is designed for builders adding high-speed U.2 storage to a compatible platform.
Upgrade Path from SATA or Basic M.2
The card replaces a direct SATA connection or a limited M.2 slot by enabling a U.2 NVMe drive over PCIe 3.0 or 4.0. The jump is worth it when the workload demands the bandwidth of a four-lane NVMe device. It does not support SAS or SATA disks, so the upgrade only applies to NVMe U.2 drives.
Limits of the SFF-8654 Interface
The SFF-8654 connector carries four PCIe lanes up to 4.0 speeds, but the cable length is fixed at 50cm. The adapter requires a mainboard with an SFF-8654 port and an operating system of Windows 10 or later. It cannot be used with SAS or SATA protocols, limiting it strictly to NVMe U.2 devices.

Questions about this item
Does the 50 cm cable reach from a full-length PCIe slot to a front-panel U.2 bay?
The included cable is 50 cm long; measure your chassis routing path to confirm it spans the distance between the card slot and the U.2 drive bay.
Which way does the SFF-8654 connector on the card key into the slot?
Insert the card into a PCIe 3.0 or 4.0 x4 slot with the SFF-8654 port facing the rear bracket, then attach the 50 cm cable to the port and the U.2 SSD.
Will the SFF-8639 end of the cable need replacement if I switch to a newer U.2 NVMe drive?
The cable uses the standard SFF-8639 U.2 interface, so it remains compatible with current and future U.2 NVMe SSDs that use the same connector.
