USB 3.0 Type-A extension cable

This 8-inch cable adds reach between a host computer and a USB-A peripheral. It supports the USB 3.0 specification with a 5 Gbps signalling rate, which is 10 times faster than USB 2.0 at 480 Mbps. The plug-and-play design requires no driver installation on compatible systems. It suits users who need a short, reliable link for desktop or laptop ports.

When a longer reach justifies the upgrade

The extender replaces a direct device connection when the stock cable falls short of the port. The jump is worth it when signal integrity over the extra distance matters, because the construction uses tinned-copper conductors, metal braid shielding and gold-plated contacts to preserve the 5 Gbps throughput. It is not for buyers who need more length than eight inches or who require a different connector type such as USB-C or Micro-B.

Simple plug-in with durable strain relief

Installation is a single step: insert the male plug into the host and the peripheral into the female receptacle. The reinforced joint and anti-abrasive PVC jacket withstand over 15000 bending cycles, reducing the risk of intermittent contact from flex fatigue. The main issue that arises is attempting to draw more bus power than the host port can supply, which the cable itself cannot remedy.
