PCI-E to USB 3.1 Front Panel Adapter
This Vszerda adapter adds a USB 3.1 front-panel header and a USB 2.0 socket to a desktop motherboard through a single PCI Express slot. It targets builders whose boards lack a native USB 3.1 header but whose cases provide Type-A or Type-C front ports. The card installs directly without extra cables or power connectors.
Upgrading from USB 2.0 front headers
The jump is worthwhile when the case includes USB 3.1 ports that currently run at USB 2.0 speeds because the motherboard has no matching header. By converting a spare PCI-E slot, the adapter supplies two 5 Gbps data lanes bundled into a 10 Gbps USB 3.1 header, restoring full throughput for external drives and peripherals. If the case only has USB 2.0 front ports, the adapter adds no benefit.
Practical limits of the USB 3.1 interface
Actual transfer rates depend on the connected device, cable quality and system load, so sustained 10 Gbps is not guaranteed. The onboard USB 2.0 socket remains limited to 480 Mbps regardless of the PCI-E link speed. The adapter also requires a physical PCI-E slot and a compatible front-panel header on the case; systems without either cannot use it.
