Angled Type-E Extension Adapters

This pair of USB 3.1 Type-E adapters connects a motherboard front-panel header to a chassis port when a straight connector will not fit. One adapter angles upward and the other downward, giving builders routing flexibility in tight cases. Each unit carries a male Type-E plug on one end and a female Type-E socket on the other. They are intended for PC builders adding or relocating a front-panel USB 3.1 Gen 2 port.

Header Compatibility Limits

USB 3.1 front-panel headers use a different pin arrangement than USB 3.0 headers, so a USB 3.0 cable cannot drive a Type-E port. The adapter passes the full 3.1 pin set and is backward compatible with 3.0 devices, but the header itself must be a Type-E connector rated for 10 Gbps. Builders using older 3.0-only headers cannot use these adapters to add a 3.1 port.

Male-to-Female Type-E Gender

The deciding specification is the Type-E male-to-female gender change combined with the angled form factor. If the motherboard header is a standard Type-E male and the case cable needs a female socket at an angle, this kit fits. If the header or the cable uses a different connector style, the adapters will not mate.
