What this cable does and who needs it

This two-metre USB-C cable carries Thunderbolt 4, USB 4 and DisplayPort Alt Mode signals while delivering up to 240 W of USB PD3.1 power. It suits owners of MacBook M1 through M3, Mac Studio, iPad Pro, iPhone 15 Pro or Max, and any Thunderbolt 3 or 4 laptop that needs simultaneous high-speed data, 8K video and full-rate charging.

Practical limits of the 40 Gbps interface

The 40 Gbps ceiling is shared between data and video; driving an 8K 60 Hz display or dual 4K 60 Hz monitors will reduce bandwidth available for attached storage or docks. Actual throughput depends on the host controller, the peripheral and the firmware negotiation, so sustained speeds may fall below the theoretical maximum.

Check your setup before ordering

Verify that both the host port and the target device support USB 4 or Thunderbolt 3/4 with PD3.1 at 48 V/5 A to reach 240 W charging. For 8K 60 Hz output the source must implement DisplayPort Alt Mode over USB-C at the required link rate; older USB-C ports limited to USB 3.2 or 2.0 will fall back to lower video and power levels.

Questions about this item

Which length should I choose for my setup?

The cable is supplied in a single 2‑metre length, so there is no alternative version to select.

What does the 40 Gbps rating mean when I connect my laptop and monitor?

It allows up to 40 Gbps data transfer between compatible devices, enough to move a 10 GB 4K file in under a second, though actual speed depends on the host and peripheral support.

How does the USB4 interface limit charging and display output?

The USB4 connection caps power delivery at 240 W (48 V/5 A) under PD3.1 and supports one 8K@60 Hz or dual 4K@60 Hz displays.
