Handheld 1D linear imager reads common barcodes at 45 scans per second with a 6 ft PS/2 keyboard wedge cable
The Wasp WCS3900 is a corded handheld barcode scanner built for office, library and light retail workflows. Its 1D linear imager reads common linear symbologies such as Code 39, Code 128 and EAN/JAN-13 straight from the box. A PS/2 keyboard wedge cable is included so the scanner emulates keystrokes into any active application without driver installation. Operators who need fast contact-to-1.00-inch reads on flat labels will find it a practical fit.
The unit ships with a 6-foot PS/2 cable that plugs directly into a legacy keyboard port, delivering decoded data as simulated keystrokes. No external power supply is required because the scanner draws +5 VDC from the host, with working current under 95 mA and standby below 30 mA. The ABS plastic housing is rated for general-purpose ruggedness and weighs 7.00 lbs, so it stays put on a countertop yet remains light enough for all-day handheld use. A 660 nm visible laser diode provides a clear aiming line for accurate targeting.
Replacing keyboard typing or ageing pen-style readers with the WCS3900 cuts keystroke errors and speeds throughput at 45 scans per second. The jump is worth it when barcodes are printed on paper labels up to 3.25 inches wide and the host system runs a supported Windows release from XP SP3 through Windows 10. Buyers who need 2D code reading, wireless freedom or USB-native connection without a PS/2 port should look elsewhere.

| Ruggedness | General Purpose |
The scanner connects via a PS/2 keyboard-wedge cable, so data enters the host as keystrokes and is limited to the 45 scans per second decode rate of the CCD engine.
The yellow-and-black housing measures 1.06" × 3.62" × 7.40" and weighs 7.00 lbs, so it needs a comfortable grip area and a stable resting spot.
Plug the 6 ft PS/2 cable into the keyboard port before powering on the PC; the scanner draws +5 VDC ±5% from the port and requires no driver, but the host must be off when the cable is connected.
