Weber heat shield for Smokey Mountain Cooker

This replacement heat shield fits Weber Smokey Mountain Cookers from 2009 with a 14 7/8 in diameter. It is designed for the 18 in and 22 in models identified by part number 63017. Owners of compatible smokers can restore proper heat distribution with this genuine Weber component.

Critical specification: 14 7/8 in diameter

The shield only fits units where the cooking chamber measures exactly 14 7/8 in across. Models 721999, 721001 and 731001 are the three listed variants that match this dimension. Any Smokey Mountain Cooker with a different diameter will not accept this part.

Capacity and headroom

The shield handles the full heat load of both 18 in (47 cm) and 22 in (57 cm) smokers during long low-and-slow sessions. It runs out when the chamber diameter differs from the specified 14 7/8 in or when used on smokers produced outside the 2009 model year.

Questions about this item

How does the 14 7/8 inch diameter affect fit on my Smokey Mountain Cooker?

The shield matches the 14 7/8 inch diameter of the 2009 Smokey Mountain Cooker, sitting directly above the charcoal chamber to deflect heat toward the cooking grate.

What does the SMC 09 designation tell me about compatibility?

SMC 09 identifies this shield for the 2009 Smokey Mountain Cooker models 721999, 721001 and 731001; it will not align with earlier or later versions.

What clearance do the 18 in and 22 in measurements give for installation?

The 18 in (47 cm) and 22 in (57 cm) dimensions correspond to the 18 in and 22 in Smokey Mountain Cooker sizes, so the shield drops into the mid-section without modification.
