WD Purple Pro 8 TB surveillance drive

This 3.5" SATA hard drive is built for high-end AI recorders, video-analytics appliances and deep-learning servers that need large-capacity, high-workload storage. It supports a 550 TB/yr workload rate and uses AllFrame AI technology to reduce frame loss while handling up to 32 AI streams per drive. Tarnish-resistant components add durability in harsh environments and multi-bay enclosures. ||

Ideal for AI video and multi-bay deployments

Security integrators and IT teams deploying advanced smart-video platforms will benefit from the enterprise-class performance and vibration tolerance. Buyers who need a different interface or a lower-capacity drive for basic DVR use should consider other models. ||

SATA 6 Gb/s interface with 256 MB cache

The drive connects via a SATA 6 Gb/s interface and provides 256 MB of cache to sustain heavy, concurrent write workloads. This specification determines whether the drive fits the host controller and meets the throughput demands of AI-enabled recording systems.

Questions about this item

Does my recorder need a SATA port and 3.5" bay for this 8TB WD Purple Pro?

Yes. It installs in any standard 3.5" drive bay and connects via a SATA 6 Gb/s cable, the same interface used by most DVRs, NVRs and servers today.

Will the 256 MB cache and AllFrame AI handle the streams from my older cameras alongside new AI channels?

The drive supports up to 32 AI streams plus standard video streams simultaneously, so legacy cameras and new analytics channels share the same spindle without extra configuration.

How do I confirm the drive is healthy after installation?

Check the SMART attributes for reallocated-sector count and workload-host-reads-written; values near zero with the drive reporting 8 TB capacity indicate normal operation.
