SKU CH-TD56-KK2E7 MPN WD20PURZProduct

A 2 TB 3.5" internal hard drive using CMR technology and a 64 MB buffer for continuous surveillance recording

  • 2 TB capacity for surveillance footage storage
  • CMR technology for consistent write performance
  • 64 MB buffer handles multiple camera streams
  • SATA 600 interface fits standard NVR bays
  • 5 inch form factor mounts in desktop chassis

Purpose-built surveillance storage

The Western Digital Purple WD20PURZ is a 2 TB internal hard drive designed for network video recorders. It uses conventional magnetic recording and a 5400 rpm spindle speed with a 64 MB buffer to handle continuous write workloads. The SATA 600 interface fits standard 3.5 inch drive bays in NVR appliances and compatible desktop chassis.

Suited for always-on recording

This drive targets installers and system integrators building or expanding video-surveillance arrays that run around the clock. It is not intended for general-purpose desktop storage, high-performance gaming libraries or workloads that demand faster random-access speeds than a 5400 rpm mechanism can deliver.

The 2 TB capacity ceiling

Two terabytes is the total space available for footage retention before older files must be overwritten or additional drives added. Buyers planning longer retention periods or higher camera counts should calculate whether this capacity meets their recording schedule before purchase.

Questions about this item

What SATA port and power connector does the WD20PURZ need from the host system?

It connects through a standard SATA data cable to a SATA/600 port and requires a SATA power connector from the power supply.

Will the 3.5" form factor and 5400 rpm spindle speed let this Purple drive share a SATA controller with older desktop drives?

Yes, the drive uses the same SATA interface and 3.5" dimensions, so it can operate on the same controller as other SATA drives regardless of their spindle speed.

How can I confirm the drive is recognised at its full 2 TB capacity after installation?

Check the BIOS or operating system disk utility; it should report the drive model WD20PURZ with a capacity of 2 TB and a SATA/600 link speed.
