WD AV drive for video surveillance

This 3.5-inch Western Digital WD5000AURX is built for continuous recording in DVR and NVR systems. Its 500GB capacity stores days of footage from multiple cameras. The SATA 6.0Gb/s interface fits standard desktop drive bays. It targets installers who need reliable 24x7 operation rather than peak desktop speed.

SilkStream and IntelliPower technologies

SilkStream optimises the drive for smooth playback of up to 12 simultaneous HD streams using the ATA streaming command set. IntelliPower balances spin speed, transfer rate and caching algorithms to reduce power draw and heat. IntelliSeek calculates seek speeds to cut noise and vibration. NoTouch ramp load prevents the head from contacting the disk surface during parking.

Bare drive with standard 3.5-inch mounting

The bare-drive package supplies the mechanism only, ready for four-screw mounting in any 3.5-inch bay with 26.10mm height clearance. Standard SATA data and power connectors face the rear for straightforward cabling. Halogen-free construction meets environmental requirements. Buyers who need retail packaging, mounting screws or a SATA cable must source them separately.

Questions about this item

Will the No-Touch Ramp Load technology eliminate the need for head-related maintenance on the WD5000AURX?

No-Touch Ramp Load prevents the recording head from contacting the disk media, significantly reducing wear. The drive still requires standard environmental care and monitoring like any mechanical hard drive.

Does the 500GB capacity or the IntelliPower RPM limit how many 24x7 surveillance streams the WD5000AURX can record?

The drive is optimized for up to 12 simultaneous HD streams via SilkStream technology. Capacity determines total recording time, while IntelliPower balances spin speed and transfer rate for sustained streaming workloads.

How much noise and heat does the IntelliPower 3.5" drive produce during continuous all-day operation?

IntelliSeek calculates optimum seek speeds to lower unnecessary power consumption, noise, and vibration. IntelliPower and GreenPower features reduce startup current and overall power draw for cooler, quieter 24x7 operation.
