What the trowel is

The Westward 13P517 is a brick trowel built with high carbon steel and a wide heel London pattern. It measures 11 in. overall length and 5-1/2 in. width. The ergoSoft handle has a 1 47/100 in. diameter and a 6 in. length for leverage. Masons and bricklayers use it to spread and shape mortar on site.

Capacity and headroom

The wide heel pattern carries enough mortar for standard brick courses and lets you strike smooth joints in a single pass. High carbon steel holds its edge through daily site work. The blade size limits the amount of mortar moved per scoop, so very large block work will need a bigger tool.

The deciding spec

The 11 x 5-1/2 in. wide heel London blade defines the trowel's reach and mortar capacity. If your joint widths and brick sizes match that pattern, the tool fits the job. If you need a narrower nose or a different heel shape for pointing or stone, this model will not suit.

Questions about this item

Will the 11 in trowel balance well with my existing 10 in pointing trowel?

The 11 in overall length and wide heel London pattern give this trowel a longer reach and broader blade than a typical pointing trowel, so it handles differently for spreading mortar.

How do I know the ergoSoft handle is seated correctly after assembly?

The handle diameter of 1 47/100 in fits the tang snugly; when fully seated there is no visible gap between the ferrule and the blade shoulder.

Does the box include a handle or must I buy one separately?

The trowel comes with the 6 in ergoSoft handle already fitted; no separate handle purchase is required.
