A 9-inch scaling chisel with a 0.580-inch hex shank for surface removal with chipping hammers
The Westward 4MGY7 is a steel scaling chisel built for surface removal with chipping hammers. Its 0.580 in hex shank fits compatible tools such as the ACL-107, and the 2 in wide tip clears coatings, rust and scale on metal structures. The 42CRMO grade steel resists deformation under repeated impact. California Proposition 65 warnings apply for cancer and reproductive harm.
A dull or narrower chisel slows removal and increases operator fatigue. The 2 in tip width covers more area per blow, so the jump is worth it when preparing large steel surfaces for welding or painting. The oval collar locks positively into the hammer, reducing slippage that damages both tool and workpiece. Not suited for precision carving or confined spaces where a smaller profile is required.
The hex shank design engages directly with matching chipping hammers, eliminating the need for adapters. The 9 in overall length keeps the operator’s hand clear of the work zone while maintaining leverage. The non-sparking rating is absent, so the chisel is not rated for explosive atmospheres. It frees up time on deck scaling, tank cleaning and heavy fabrication prep where wide, aggressive material removal is the priority.

The chisel has a hex shank measuring .580 in, designed to match the collar of compatible chipping hammers.
Insert the hex shank fully into the hammer’s oval collar until it seats; the step often missed is confirming the shank locks securely before use.
Replace the chisel when the 2 in cutting tip shows noticeable wear or the 42CRMO steel body develops cracks from repeated impact.
