Pipe tap for 1/8"-27 NPT threads

This Westward pipe tap cuts internal NPT threads sized 1/8 inch with 27 threads per inch. It is intended for mechanics, plumbers and maintenance technicians who need to create or repair tapered pipe threads in metal fittings. The semi-bottoming design allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Four flutes help evacuate chips during the cut.

High-speed steel construction with bright finish

The tap is made from high-speed steel and has a bright, uncoated surface. Right-hand cutting direction follows standard practice for NPT pipe threads. Thread length measures three-quarters of an inch within an overall length of two and one-eighth inches. A 75 percent thread drill size Q is specified for the tapping drill, and the class of fit is 3B.

Manual operation with standard tap wrench

In normal hand-tapping use the tool generates minimal heat because cutting speed is low and lubrication is applied by the operator. Noise is limited to the sound of the tap turning in the workpiece. No external power is required, so power draw is not a factor. Chip clearance through the four flutes reduces binding risk during the cut.
