Blade length and tooth count

This Westward crosscut saw has a 15 in blade with 9 teeth per inch. The steel blade is .8 mm thick and features taper filed teeth. The offset cutting edge and beveled cutting action are designed for wood cutting tasks.

Target users and limitations

Carpenters and DIY users making straight cuts in timber will find this hand saw suitable. Buyers who need a rip saw for cutting along the grain should look at a different tooth pattern. The saw is not intended for metal, plastic or fine joinery work.

Deciding specification

The 9 TPI tooth pitch determines the balance between cutting speed and finish quality on wood. A higher TPI would cut slower but leave a smoother surface, while a lower TPI would remove material faster with a rougher cut. This specification decides whether the saw matches the required application.

Questions about this item

What size mitre box or bench hook do I need for a 15 in blade?

A standard 15 in mitre box or bench hook will accept the 15 in blade length of this saw.

Will the 9 TPI offset teeth cut cleanly in the same softwoods I use with my finer-toothed backsaw?

The 9 TPI offset, taper-filed teeth remove material faster than finer saws, leaving a rougher surface that may need planing.

How can I confirm the .8 mm blade is cutting straight after I start the kerf?

Sight down the blade; a true cut shows an even kerf with no wandering, and the beveled teeth should track without binding.
