Westward 5XL74 Jobber Drill Bit

The Westward 5XL74 is a jobber length drill bit manufactured from high speed steel with a black oxide surface treatment. It is engineered for general-purpose drilling tasks in a workshop or maintenance environment.

Suits machinists needing a 135 degree split point

This bit suits machinists and technicians who require a 135 degree split point for self-centering starts in metal. It is not for operators who need coolant-through capability or a different drill bit point angle for specialised materials.

Verify 3/16 inch fractional size

Before ordering, confirm that your application calls for a 3/16 inch fractional size with a .1875 decimal equivalent. Also check that a non-coolant through, high speed steel composition matches the material you intend to drill.

Questions about this item

What drill chuck size do I need to hold the 3/16 inch shank?

A chuck that opens to at least 3/16 inch (0.1875 decimal) will grip the bit securely.

Will the 135-degree split point work in my older drill press without grabbing?

The split point reduces walking and lowers thrust, so it runs smoothly in older drill presses and hand drills alike.

How can I confirm the bit is cutting correctly after the first hole?

Check for a clean, round hole with minimal burr and chips that curl evenly, showing the 135-degree point is centred and sharp.
