The Widia Gtd VTSFT8005 is a spiral flute tap designed to cut 3/8"-18 NPT threads in a single pass. It suits maintenance engineers and machinists who need reliable pipe-thread production in workshop or field conditions. The bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Two flutes provide a balance of chip evacuation and tool rigidity during the cut.

Cobalt High-Speed Steel Construction

The tap body is made from cobalt high-speed steel with a black oxide surface treatment that resists wear and reduces galling. A 2 9/16 in overall length and 1 1/32 in thread length fit standard tap holders and CNC tool changers without adapters. Right-hand cut orientation matches conventional threading operations. The 75 percent thread drill size of 9/16 in guides the operator to prepare the correct hole diameter before tapping.

Efficient Chip Management

Spiral flutes pull chips upward and out of the hole, preventing packing that can damage threads or break the tool in deep or blind holes. This geometry reduces cutting torque and heat buildup during normal use, extending tool life in materials such as steel and stainless alloys. The design eliminates the need for frequent tool withdrawal to clear chips, maintaining consistent thread quality throughout the cut.
