4 in Bar Clamp

The Wilton 86800 is a lever-handle bar clamp built for general-purpose clamping tasks. Its steel bar measures 1/2 in wide by 1 1/2 in thick and provides a 4 in clamping capacity. A 12 in aluminum handle delivers up to 1,100 lb of clamping force. Flat jaw pads 1 1/4 in wide by 7/8 in high distribute pressure evenly across the workpiece.

Who it suits and who should look elsewhere

Woodworkers and metalworkers needing a single-handed, medium-reach clamp for assembly, glue-ups or light fabrication will find the 2 3/8 in throat depth practical. Buyers who need a deeper reach for wide panels or a higher force rating for heavy structural joints should look elsewhere. The lever action speeds repetitive clamping but offers less fine adjustment than a screw mechanism.

Deciding specification: 4 in clamping capacity

The 4 in maximum opening determines the thickest workpiece this clamp can span. If your material exceeds that dimension, this model cannot close on it regardless of throat depth or force. Match the capacity to your thickest stock before purchasing.

Questions about this item

Will the 12 in aluminum handle need tightening or replacement over time?

The aluminum lever handle is a solid component; no routine tightening or replacement is expected under normal use.

What limits continuous clamping force during long jobs?

The rated clamping force is 1,100 lb; sustained pressure beyond that rating may cause the steel bar to flex first.

Does the clamp generate heat or noise when left tightened all day?

No moving parts operate while clamped, so it produces no noise or heat during extended static use.
