2.5 inch SATA USB 3.0 Enclosure

The YINGHUA enclosure converts a 2.5 inch SATA hard drive or solid-state drive into an external USB 3.0 storage device. It supports drives up to 3 TB and delivers a theoretical transfer speed of 6 Gbps. The aluminium-alloy and ABS shell measures 120 by 75 by 13 millimetres and weighs 56 grams. Hot-swap operation lets you change drives without powering down.

Buyers wanting tool-free drive swaps on Windows

The case includes a screwdriver and screws, so installation requires basic tools rather than a toolless tray. It works with Windows from 98 SE through Windows 10 and Mac OS 8.6 or later. Users who need a completely toolless mechanism or support for 3.5 inch drives should consider a different enclosure.

Maximum supported capacity of 3 TB

The enclosure accepts 2.5 inch SATA drives up to 3 TB, which is the highest capacity the bridge controller can address. Drives larger than this limit will not be recognised, so verify your drive size before purchase.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 3 TB limit or a lower capacity drive?

The enclosure supports up to 3 TB, so any 2.5 inch SATA drive at or below that capacity will work.

What does the 6 Gbps figure mean once the drive is installed?

That is the theoretical SATA link speed; real-world throughput will be lower and depends on the drive you fit.

How does the USB 3.0 interface cap performance in practice?

USB 3.0 tops out at 5 Gbps, so it becomes the bottleneck once the drive can exceed that rate.
