M.2 Key A to Mini PCI-E adapter

This adapter converts an M.2 Key A or Key A+E slot into a Mini PCI-E interface for compatible wireless cards. It is aimed at builders upgrading older laptops or small-form-factor boards that lack native M.2 Wi-Fi slots. The board requires no extra power or driver installation. Only Key A and Key A+E modules are supported; single Key E cards will not fit.

Interface and compatibility limits

The converter provides a passive electrical bridge between the M.2 Key A pinout and the Mini PCI-E socket. It does not translate protocols, so the host system must already support the wireless card’s native interface. Supported operating systems include Windows 2000, XP, Vista 32/64 and Windows 7 and 8. Hot-plug capability is advertised, but practical use depends on the host firmware. SSD, 3G or 4G modules cannot be used with this adapter.

Key A pinout requirement

The single specification that decides fitment is the M.2 module’s keying: it must be Key A or Key A+E. A single Key E wireless card will not seat correctly. Compatible examples listed by the supplier include Intel 7260, 7265, 8260, 8265 and 9260 NGW cards as well as Broadcom BCM94352Z modules.

Questions about this item

Which M.2 Key A wireless cards does the F-C25NG adapter accept?

It supports Intel 7260NGW, 7265NGW, 8260NGW, 8265NGW and 9260NGW cards plus Broadcom BCM94352Z modules.

What does the Key A to Mini PCI-E conversion actually provide in a laptop?

The adapter routes PCIe and USB signals from a Key A or Key A+E M.2 slot to a full-size Mini PCI-E connector for compatible Wi-Fi cards.

Which interface standard limits the card speed once installed?

The M.2 Key A slot supplies a single PCIe lane and USB 2.0, so the wireless card operates at those link rates.
