Translucent SATA drive enclosure

The Yottamaster enclosure accepts one 2.5 or 3.5 inch SATA hard drive or SSD up to 18 TB. A USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-C cable connects the drive to a PC, laptop, Mac, smart TV, PS4 or router. Tool-free sliding cover and hot-swap support make drive changes quick and driver-free.

Users wanting simple external SATA storage

Suits anyone adding a single SATA drive to a USB port for backups, media libraries or drive cloning across Windows, Mac and Linux. Not for buyers who need RAID arrays, internal PCIe speeds or support for drives thicker than 9.5 mm. No power adapter is included for 3.5 inch units.

USB 3.1 Gen1 5 Gbps interface

The external Type-C port delivers up to 5 Gbps transfer rate with UASP acceleration and backward compatibility to USB 2.0 and 1.1. This bandwidth ceiling decides whether the enclosure matches the performance needs of the attached SATA drive.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 2.5 inch or 3.5 inch version of this Yottamaster enclosure?

This single enclosure accepts both 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch SATA drives, so you do not need to pick a separate version.

What does the 10 Gbps label mean for actual transfer speed when the drive is installed?

The internal SATA 3.0 link runs at 6 Gbps and the external USB 3.1 Gen 1 port caps at 5 Gbps, so real-world throughput is limited to 5 Gbps.

Which USB standard does the Type-C port use and what speed does it cap at?

The port uses USB 3.1 Gen 1 and is limited to 5 Gbps, while remaining backward compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1.
