Five-Bay RAID Enclosure for 2.5" & 3.5" SATA Drives

The Yottamaster VN500RU3 is a five-bay direct-attached storage enclosure built from aluminium. It accepts both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA hard drives or SSDs, supporting up to 110TB total capacity across five bays at 22TB each. Hardware RAID modes include RAID 0, 1, 3, 5, 10, JBOD and Normal for flexible data protection or performance.

Upgrade from Single-Drive or Software RAID Setups

Moving to this enclosure replaces standalone external drives or software-based RAID arrays with a dedicated hardware controller. The jump is worth it when you need hardware RAID redundancy such as RAID 1, 5 or 10 without host CPU overhead. It also suits users who want hot-swap drive changes and a single 5Gbps USB 3.0 Type B link to the host.

Check Drive Compatibility

Verify that your drives are SATA 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch models and do not exceed 22TB per bay. Confirm the host computer has a USB 3.0 Type B or compatible port for the 5Gbps connection. The unit includes a 150W internal power supply and a cooling fan, so ensure adequate ventilation space for the aluminium chassis.

Questions about this item

What drive sizes and maximum capacity per bay does the VN500RU3 support?

The enclosure accepts 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA HDDs or SSDs, with each bay supporting up to 22 TB for a total of 110 TB across five bays.

How do I set the RAID mode on the VN500RU3 and what step is often missed?

Use the hardware RAID switch on the rear to select RAID 0, 1, 3, 5, 10, JBOD or Normal mode before powering on; the step often missed is setting the switch while the unit is off, then restarting.

Which component will need replacement first in the VN500RU3 and how is it accessed?

The low-noise cooling fan is the primary wear item; it is mounted inside the aluminium chassis and can be reached by removing the top cover after the drives are ejected.
