Cordless 1D/2D imager for retail checkout

The Zebra DS8178-SR7U2100PFW is a cordless handheld barcode scanner built for point-of-sale environments. It reads both 1D and 2D codes with a general-purpose imager. The kit ships with the scanner, a shielded USB cable, and a charging cradle. It targets retailers who need reliable wireless scanning at the checkout stand.

USB cradle pairing and IP52 sealing

Installation centres on pairing the scanner with the included CR8178 cradle via the shielded USB cable. The cradle handles charging and host communication, so no separate power supply is required. The IP52 rating protects against limited dust ingress and dripping water. A common issue is losing the pairing if the cradle is unplugged without re-establishing the link.

General-purpose scanning range and battery cycle

The imager comfortably handles standard UPC, EAN and QR codes presented at typical counter distances. Battery life supports a full shift of continuous scanning before the unit must return to the cradle. Very high-density labels or codes on reflective surfaces may require closer positioning. The scanner is not suited for long-range warehouse aisles or extreme outdoor temperatures.
