Studio-grade recorder with 32-bit float

The Zoom H6studio is a 6-track Handy Recorder that captures audio at 32-bit float resolution, providing 132 dB of dynamic range without setting gain. Four XLR/TRS combo inputs with F-Series preamps and a detachable XY capsule suit musicians, podcasters and field recordists who need professional results in a portable package. The bundle adds four ZDM-1 dynamic microphones with tabletop stands, headphones and windscreens for immediate multi-person sessions.

Thermals noise and power draw

The recorder weighs 477 g and measures 3.27 x 8.70 x 2.15 inches, so it runs silently with no fan and negligible heat during typical operation. Power comes from four AA batteries, delivering extended runtime for location work without mains access. A 2-inch full-colour LCD at 5.08 cm diagonal provides clear metering and menu navigation in varied lighting conditions.

Sustained load behaviour

Dual A/D converters and 32-bit float recording maintain 132 dB dynamic range continuously, preventing clipping even when source levels change unpredictably. The 19.4 mm XY microphones handle up to 140 dB SPL with a stacked 90-degree arrangement that minimises phase cancellation during long takes. F-Series preamps hold a -127 dBu EIN floor, so noise stays low across hours of continuous recording.

Questions about this item

How do I install the XY mic capsule on the H6studio recorder?

Slide the capsule into the top mount until it clicks, then tighten the locking ring clockwise; the step people miss is not seating the connector pins fully before locking.

What maintenance will the ZDM-1 microphone packs need over time?

Replace the foam windscreens when they degrade, clean the XLR contacts periodically, and swap the AA batteries in the recorder after roughly 12 hours of continuous use.

At what sound-pressure level does the built-in XY capsule start to distort?

The 19.4 mm capsules handle up to 140 dB SPL before clipping, so very loud sources like drums or engines stay clean.
