Zoro Select 3/8-24 Grade 5 Hex Nut Pack

These zinc-plated steel hex nuts come in a 100-count package for production and maintenance work. They meet ASME B 18.2.2 dimensional standards with right-hand UNF threads. The Grade 5 rating provides reliable strength for general fastening tasks.

Zinc Plating and Grade 5 Material Effects

The zinc finish adds corrosion resistance for indoor and sheltered outdoor use. Grade 5 steel delivers a Rockwell hardness of C19 to C30 for consistent clamping force. The 9/16 inch hex width fits standard wrenches and sockets.

Installation Notes and Common Issues

The 3/8-24 thread pitch requires matching fine-thread bolts or studs to avoid cross-threading. Verify thread direction is right-hand before assembly. California Proposition 65 warnings apply due to chemical content in the plating.

Questions about this item

How often should the zinc-plated Grade 5 steel nuts be inspected or replaced in corrosive environments?

Inspect regularly for white rust or red rust on the zinc plating; replace any nut that shows coating loss or thread damage, as Grade 5 steel (Rockwell C19–C30) will corrode once the sacrificial zinc layer is consumed.

What is the first limit reached when these 3/8"-24 UNF nuts are torqued repeatedly in a high-vibration assembly?

The proof load of the Grade 5 material is the limiting factor; exceeding it stretches threads permanently, so torque to the ASME B18.2.2 specification for 3/8"-24 and use prevailing-torque or locking features if vibration is continuous.

Do the zinc-plated nuts generate noticeable heat or noise when left under constant clamp load all day?

No — a static fastener produces no heat and no noise; the zinc finish and Grade 5 steel simply maintain clamp force without measurable temperature rise or acoustic emission.
