Zoro Select Grade 5 Hex Nut 1/4"-20

The Zoro Select hex nut is a standard UNC fastener made from Grade 5 steel with a zinc-plated finish. It suits general-purpose assembly in automotive, industrial and maintenance applications where a medium-strength inch-threaded nut is required.

Sustained load performance

The nut meets ASME B 18.2.2 dimensional standards and offers a Rockwell hardness range of C19 to C30 for consistent clamping force. Zinc plating provides corrosion resistance during extended service in typical environments.

Installation and common issues

Right-hand UNC threads engage with standard 1/4"-20 bolts using a 7/16 inch wrench across the 7/32 inch hex height. Over-torquing can strip threads or exceed the Grade 5 proof load, so a calibrated torque wrench is recommended for critical joints.

Questions about this item

Does the Grade 5 steel and zinc plating resist heat and corrosion during continuous use?

Grade 5 steel with Rockwell hardness C19 to C30 and zinc plating provides strength and corrosion resistance for sustained fastening applications.

What tools and thread match are needed to install these hex nuts?

A 7/16 in wrench or socket fits the hex width, and the 1/4"-20 UNC right-hand threads require matching bolts or studs.

Will these nuts fit legacy ASME B18.2.2 hardware already in my shop?

Yes, they meet ASME B 18.2.2 dimensional standards and use inch-series UNC threads compatible with existing Grade 5 fasteners.
