Where the cord runs decides the product

Wall raceways are slim channels, often sold as multi-piece kits of sections about 15 inches long, that hide TV and speaker cables along a wall. Floor cord covers are ramped, so people can walk or roll over them, and have to be wide enough for the cord plus a safe margin. Measure the thickest bundle, then choose a channel one size larger so the cover closes without pinching the cable. Kits usually add corners, joints and end caps; check they are included.

Adhesive, screws or clips, and the material underneath

Self-adhesive backing is quick and works on clean, smooth, painted walls, but textured paint or wallpaper can make it peel, and removal may lift the paint. Screw-in channels stay put on drywall or wood. PVC is rigid and paintable, silicone and nylon types bend around corners and tabletop edges, and metal raceways protect cords where they could be struck. Colors such as white, black, beige and brown help the cover blend into the wall or baseboard.

Questions about Cable Raceways and Cord Covers

Can I run mains power cords through a raceway?
Surface raceways are made to cover cords that are already plugged in, and many hold both low-voltage and power cords. They do not turn a cord into in-wall wiring. For cables that run inside walls, use cable rated for that use and follow local electrical rules.
Will an adhesive cord cover damage my paint?
It can. Strong tape may lift paint or wallpaper when removed, so use a warm hairdryer to soften the adhesive, peel slowly, and consider screws or low-tack strips for walls you want to keep intact.
How do I cut a raceway to length?
Mark the length, cut with a fine-tooth saw or a hobby cutter for plastic channels, and file the edge smooth so it does not snag cords. Cut the base and cover to the same length, and dry-fit the corners before peeling the adhesive.
