Direct replacement for 2000-2002 Subaru Legacy

This remanufactured radio receiver matches part number 86201AE12A and interchange number 638-57638. It provides AM FM reception, single-disc CD playback and cassette operation. The unit carries option code P121 and requires no unlock code. It is intended strictly as a direct replacement for the identical factory part.

Exact part-number match required

The radio will only function if the vehicle currently uses part number 86201AE12A or the listed interchange number. Identical connectors do not guarantee compatibility because data streams differ between models. External amplifier configurations in some vehicles prevent interchange even when the physical plugs appear the same.

Upgrades a failed factory unit

This unit replaces a broken original radio with the same part number, restoring factory audio functions without modification. The jump is worth it when the existing receiver has failed and the part number matches exactly. Buyers who cannot confirm the part number from the vehicle or VIN should not purchase this item.

Questions about this item

How do I confirm the 86201AE12A P121 receiver matches my Subaru Legacy?

Match the 86201AE12A part number or the 638-57638 interchange number exactly; if your current unit carries either code it will fit 2000-2002 Legacy models.

What does "professionally remanufactured" mean for daily use?

The unit is restored to 100% working order with AM/FM, single-disc CD and cassette functions fully operational; only minor cosmetic abrasions and a 1cm scratch above the disc slot remain.

Does the P121 option code limit which Legacy trims can use this head unit?

The P121 code identifies this specific receiver variant; it replaces any factory radio bearing the same 86201AE12A or 638-57638 number regardless of trim, but vehicles with external amplifiers may not be compatible.
