Connects a 2.5 inch SATA drive via USB 3.0 with 5 Gb/s transfer and hot-swap support
This cable connects a 2.5 inch SATA drive to a USB 3.0 port for direct data access. It supports the Mass Storage Class so the drive appears immediately without extra drivers. The 22-pin connector carries both power and data for compatible laptop drives. Hot-swap and plug-and-play functions let you swap drives without restarting the host system.
The SuperSpeed USB 3.0 link tops out at 5 Gb/s, while the SATA side follows the Revision 2.6 specification. Real-world throughput will sit below the 5 Gb/s ceiling due to protocol overhead and drive performance. The adapter remains backward compatible with USB 2.0, 1.1 and 1.0 ports, though speeds drop to those older standards. SATA 1.5 Gb/s drives also work but cannot exceed their native link rate.
The adapter handles any 2.5 inch SATA drive that conforms to the Mass Storage Class, regardless of capacity. It draws power solely from the USB port, so very high-spin-up drives may exceed the port's current allowance. There is no external power input, limiting use to drives that run within standard USB power budgets. Unsupported form factors include 3.5 inch drives and any non-SATA interfaces.

Yes, the 22P connector matches the combined data and power port on standard 2.5 inch SATA hard drives and SSDs, so this cable connects them directly to a USB port.
The 5 Gb/s is the interface ceiling; real-world speeds will be limited by the drive itself, typically reaching the SATA 1.5 Gb/s level for older 2.5 inch mechanical drives.
Yes, it is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 ports, though the transfer rate will drop to the lower port's maximum.
