High-temperature polyimide tape

This 3M 1218 amber tape uses a polyimide film backing with acrylic adhesive for electrical insulation up to 356 degrees F and a 600 V rating. The continuous roll measures 36 yards long by 1/4 inch wide and is 3 mil thick. It is supplied new as a single-sided roll for general electrical wrapping tasks.

Simple hand application

The tape unwinds from a continuous roll and adheres on one side only, so it can be torn and pressed into place by hand without tools. The acrylic adhesive bonds to clean, dry surfaces, but dust, oil or moisture will reduce holding strength. Stretching the film too tightly during wrapping can cause it to lift at the edges after heating cycles.

Check voltage and temperature limits

Verify that the circuit voltage does not exceed 600 V and that the operating temperature stays at or below 356 degrees F. The 1/4 inch width covers only narrow conductors or small splices, so confirm the insulation area fits this dimension. The roll length of 36 yards determines how many joints you can wrap per unit.
