Insulating Tape for Electrical Work

3M Scotch 2520 is a varnished cotton cambric tape with a rubber adhesive. The yellow roll measures 3/4 inch wide and 108 feet long. It is designed for insulating and protecting wires and cables in electrical applications.

Suited for General Insulating Tasks

This tape suits electricians and technicians needing abrasion-resistant insulation for wiring. It is not for buyers who require a voltage-rated product for high-voltage termination. It is also not for users who need a tape with a specified minimum operating temperature for cold environments.

Heat Resistance up to 220 Degrees F

The maximum performance temperature is rated at 220 degrees Fahrenheit. This figure determines if the tape can withstand the thermal demands of the intended application. Verify this limit against the operating conditions of the equipment being insulated.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 108 ft roll or a shorter length?

The roll supplied is 108 ft (36 yd) long and 3/4 in wide, giving one continuous length for multiple wiring jobs.

What does the 220 °F temperature rating mean when the tape is on a live circuit?

It indicates the maximum continuous operating temperature the varnished cotton cambric can withstand without losing adhesion or insulation properties.

How does the rubber adhesive perform on irregular cable surfaces?

The rubber-based adhesive bonds securely to uneven or textured insulation, maintaining grip through vibration and thermal cycling.
